The Crazy Mason Milkshake Bar is the dessert stop kids will talk about on the drive back to the cabin. Every shake comes in a mason jar and is built up with frosting, candy, cookies, brownies or cake, so it is as much a photo op as a treat. The Gatlinburg shop is a locally owned franchise of a brand that began in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
The menu has more than 30 signature creations. Build Me Up Buttercup pairs chocolate and peanut butter, and Meet Me in the Mountains layers salted caramel, brownie, Oreos and candy. You can also build your own shake from a long list of ice creams and toppings, starting with the simple Plain Jane. Crazy Waffles top a sugar-pearl waffle with a three-scoop sundae, Crazy Bombs sandwich ice cream between homemade cookies, and there are cobblers, cheesecake and brownies too. Dairy-free shakes use Hershey's OATmazing ice cream, and gluten-free choices are available.
The shop is at 812 Parkway, Suite 106, right next to Ripley's Believe It or Not in the heart of downtown Gatlinburg. Park in a paid downtown lot or take the trolley. It opens in the afternoon on weekdays and at noon on weekends, and it serves takeout but not delivery. These shakes are big, so consider ordering one to share.
