When the family wants a break from mountain roads, Douglas Lake offers wide water and long views back toward the Smokies. Lakeside RV Resort and Marina, on Dyke Road north of Sevierville, is a convenient place to rent a boat for the day. The resort combines 72 full hook-up RV sites with a working marina, and it belongs to the Tennessee Marina Association and the Tennessee Valley Clean Marina Initiative.
The main draw for cabin guests is the rental fleet. The 22-foot Crest pontoons, powered by 115-horsepower Mercury engines, carry up to eight people, a comfortable way to swim, fish and cruise the coves. Sea Ray boats are also available, as are kayaks and paddleboards for quieter paddles near shore and golf carts for getting around the property. A floating store sells fuel and supplies, and the Otters Cove Bar and Grill on site makes lunch easy.
Pontoons rent in two shifts, 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM or 2 PM to 6 PM, from April through Labor Day, at $189 for a half day or $289 for a full day, plus tax and fuel, with $5 more on weekends. From Labor Day to mid-October, call for availability. The driver needs a valid license, and anyone born after January 1, 1989 needs a boater safety certificate. Pets, grills and smoking are not allowed on rental pontoons.
