West by God CoalFired Pizza is the kitchen inside Country Roads Axe Co., a 7,500-square-foot entertainment space just off the Parkway on East Wears Valley Road. The pairing makes it an easy night out for a cabin group: order a few pies, pour your own drinks, and take turns at the throwing lanes. Pepperoni rolls, offered fried or baked, are a favorite starter.
Pizzas come out of a coal-fired oven and a light, crisp crust. Signatures include the Pizza Party with pepperoni and Mike's Hot Honey and the Boggey Bomb, a meat lover's pie finished with local bacon jam, and guests also mention wings and pistachio pesto. The 24-tap self-pour wall uses wristbands so you can sample beer, cider, seltzer and sours by the ounce. At the axe lanes, coaches teach the basics before games on digitally projected targets, and a mezzanine overlooks the action.
The restaurant is at 137 East Wears Valley Road, Suite 2, with a free parking lot out front, and the venue is wheelchair accessible. Reservations are taken online, which is worth doing for axe throwing on busy evenings and weekends. Private event space is available for reunions, parties and corporate groups. Hours run from late morning into the evening every day, with later closing on Friday and Saturday.
