Wood Signs of Gatlinburg has been making personalized wooden signs in the heart of downtown Gatlinburg since 1971. It is a family-owned and operated shop, and a custom sign is one of the more lasting souvenirs you can take home from a mountain trip: a family name for the front porch, a welcome sign for your own cabin or a marker for a favorite campsite.
Signs are made from Western Red Cedar, Eastern Red Cedar and Northern White Cedar, woods chosen because they hold up to weather indoors or out. Designs can be engraved, hand-painted or finished with durable aluminum artwork plaques, and there are hundreds of clipart images and dozens of lettering styles to personalize them. Favorites include black bear family signs, log cabin welcome signs, Adirondack campfire camping signs and wedding and anniversary signs, plus small add-a-name and dog bone signs.
The storefront is at 715 Parkway, Shop #1, in downtown Gatlinburg. It is open weekly with varying hours, and the shop posts each week's hours on its Facebook page, so check there before you walk over. If you would rather not wait for a custom piece during your trip, you can order online and have it shipped, and gift certificates are available. Email the shop to discuss a fully custom project.
