Pancakes are a Smokies tradition. Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge have been feeding hikers and families stacks of buttermilk cakes for decades, and a sit-down pancake breakfast is often the one meal a whole cabin group agrees on. The catch is the line: the famous spots fill before they open on busy mornings.
These seven are the pancake houses and breakfast rooms with real pancake credentials, spread across Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Sevierville. We note which take group reservations, which run an online waitlist, and when to go to avoid the longest lines.

Pancake Pantry
The original. Pancake Pantry opened in 1960 and calls itself Tennessee's first pancake specialty restaurant. It serves breakfast all day, with old-fashioned buttermilk pancakes, crepes and waffles in generous portions, and it still has the old-school Gatlinburg feel. Expect a line before the 7 a.m. opening on weekends; weekdays are easier.
Good to know: Open daily 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.; takes credit cards.

It is one of the few pancake houses that offers group reservations.

Tips for Groups
- Go early or go on a weekday. Lines form before opening at the famous Gatlinburg spots on weekends, and mid-morning is the busiest stretch.
- For a group of 10 or more, pick a place built for it: Flapjack's takes group reservations, Five Oaks has two private dining rooms, and Reagan's buffet lets everyone eat at their own pace.
- Use the online waitlists. Five Oaks and Crockett's both let you get in line through Google before you leave the cabin, which saves a long wait on the sidewalk.
