The Checkered Flag is a family-run indoor racing complex built around a hobby that rarely shows up on the Parkway: slot cars and radio-controlled vehicles. After years in Pigeon Forge, it reopened on Collier Drive in Sevierville, where it serves first-time drivers and serious hobby racers alike. It makes a welcome change of pace from the usual attractions and works in any weather, since everything happens under one roof.
The centerpiece is a professional 8-lane wooden slot car track with electronic lap counting and race management, so every lap is timed. A NASCAR-style oval delivers fast, close racing, while the drag strip pits two cars head to head and records reaction times, speed and the winner of each run. Outside the slot car world, an RC off-road course with jumps, obstacles and mixed surfaces tests trucks and buggies. A pro shop carries motors, gears, chassis, bodies and tires for racers who bring their own cars.
The complex sits in Suite I2 at 232 Collier Drive, a short drive from the Sevierville stretch of the Parkway. The business was not yet taking online bookings at last check, so call ahead to reserve track time, especially for a group. Hours are Monday through Thursday 10 AM to 7 PM and Friday and Saturday 10 AM to 8 PM, and it is closed on Sundays. Follow the business on Facebook for updates.
