Tucked into Mills Park on the quieter east side of Gatlinburg, the Mills Park Disc Golf Course is a free, low-key way to spend an hour or two outdoors with mountain views. It is the kind of local recreation spot visitors rarely hear about, and it suits families, casual players and anyone who packed a few discs. There are no fees to play, and the surrounding park adds restrooms, picnic tables and a playground.
The course opened in 2006 and was redesigned in June 2021. It uses nine concrete tee pads with two sets of baskets, gold and blue, so a full round can be played as 18 holes. Three holes wind through woods and six play across open, gently hilly ground, and most holes are under 300 feet, which keeps it friendly for beginners. The ninth hole is a downhill shot with a real chance at an ace.
Mills Park is at 309 Mills Park Road, just off US 321 (East Parkway), next to Gatlinburg's schools and Rocky Top Sports World. The park is open from sunrise to sunset, and it is shared with walking trails, sports fields and a dog park, so watch for other visitors along the fairways. Bring your own discs. Questions about the park go to the Gatlinburg Recreation Department at (865) 436-4990.
