River Rage Tubing is a simple, old-fashioned way to spend a hot Smokies afternoon: a colorful tube, cool mountain water and a slow float down the Little River. The outfitter sits on the riverbank along Highway 73 in Townsend, the closest gateway to Cades Cove, so it pairs easily with a morning in the national park. For cabin guests in Wears Valley or Pigeon Forge, the drive over the mountain is part of the pleasure.
An all-day pass includes your tube and the shuttle ride upriver. From the put-in, the float back to base covers about 1.5 miles and usually takes around an hour and a half, a little faster or slower depending on how high the water is running. Staff start putting tubers on the river at 10 AM, and the last shuttle leaves at 5 PM. Changing rooms and portable restrooms are on site, so bring a dry set of clothes for the ride home.
Tubing is a warm-weather activity here. The season runs through Labor Day and may extend past it if the weather allows, so check the website or call before planning a September visit. Tubers must be at least 5 years old, children may not ride on a parent's lap, and pets are not allowed. Parking is plentiful. Calling is the fastest way to reach the staff, and reservations are made through the online booking page rather than the contact form.
