Old Mountain Wine Company is a small-batch winery at the south end of the Gatlinburg Parkway, a short walk from the entrance to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Everything it pours is made and bottled on site, with an emphasis on sweet, fruit-forward wines built around Appalachian favorites like blackberry and muscadine. It bills itself as a sit-and-sip winery, which makes it an easy place to slow down between downtown shops and a drive into the park.
The tasting room offers free samples, so it is simple to work through the list before choosing a bottle. Look for Burly Blackberry, the citrusy Dew, Apple Atcha with its baked-pie spice, Red Muscadine, and honey wines such as Mango Honey Mead and Elderberry Honey. Hard ciders, including a Summer Peach, and fortified wines round out the menu. The bar also mixes cocktails from the house wines, and the patio has seating and fire pits for lingering on cool mountain evenings.
The winery is at 1133 Parkway and is open daily from 10 AM to 11 PM. It is part of the Gatlinburg Wine Trail, so it pairs well with other downtown tasting rooms on a walking afternoon. Wine tastings and purchases are for guests 21 and older, so bring a valid ID. Bottles are sold on site and through the winery's online shop, which is handy if you find a favorite and want more shipped home after your stay.
